Mark Feinsand of MLB.com identifies Tommy Pham as a player who could be fit for the Cleveland Guardians.
The rumors and mock trades are starting to really get going as the MLB Trade Deadline is just a couple of weeks off. The next set of games will be key for a group of teams that are trying to figure out if they should be buyers or sellers at the deadline.
One team who quickly went from contender to seller this season is the New York Mets.
New York's payroll is the higher in MLB history as owner Steven Cohen has done everything he can to buy his way to World Series as quickly as possible. However, that experiment has not gone in his favor as the Mets sit at 42-49 on the season and are well out of any playoff spot.
As the team continues to underachieve, there's a good chance that they could move on from some of their veterans to get back pieces for the future.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com identifies Tommy Pham as one of the players who could be moved. Even more interesting for our sake, he identifies the Cleveland Guardians as a potential fit. This is what he wrote:
Fiensand also lists the Minnesota Twins and San Fransico Giants are options for Pham.
Trading for Pham would be a low-risk move for the Guardians. As Feinsand said, he's a veteran on a fairly cheap deal. However, the fit with Cleveland is somewhat questionable.
Pham would most likely platoon with Will Brennan in the right field and play every couple of days. (This is unless the organization is alright with not playing Myles Straw every day which feels unlikely.)
If the Guardians are going to give up prospects and pieces to make a trade, it should be for someone who is going to play every day and make a major impact, not a minor one.
