Chase DeLauter hit his fourth home run in three games in the Cleveland Guardians' win over the Seattle Mariners.
Chase DeLauter is currently exceeding any hype that he had coming into the season. He always had the talent and potential to be one of the better hitters in the Cleveland Guardians’ lineup, but no one saw this coming through his first three regular-season games.
The Guardians managed to pull off an extra-inning victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night, 6-5. A large part of that win had to do with, yes, another DeLauter home run.
DeLauter was 0-for-5 heading into the ninth inning in what was largely a pretty rough night at the plate. The rookie had struck out three times off Seattle pitching.
However, when the Guardians needed it most, DeLauter did what he’s done so far this season, and that’s hit another home run.
It looked like he was just trying to make contact with a fastball close to the zone with two strikes, but DeLauter’s pure strength helped him push it over the left field wall for an opposite-field home run.
DeLauter is now one of only two players in MLB history to have four home runs through their first three regular-season games. The other player is Trevor Story, who accomplished this feat in 2026 with the Colorado Rockies.
“I was on fastball all night. Unfortunately, didn't really go my way, most of it. Stuck with a plan, and I got to heater up and went after it,” said DeLauter after the game.
What made this homer that much more impressive is that it came off Andres Munoz, one of the best closers in baseball. Plus, the pitch was up and away. If DeLauter didn’t swing at it, it probably wouldn’t have been called a strike.
Through DeLauter’s first 14 at-bats, he has five hits, four home runs, and owns a 1.571 OPS.
Steven Kwan described what the rookie is doing right now as “really stupid.” Stephen Vogt chose the phrase “pretty special.”
“It's special, especially after his first five at-bats. I mean, that shows the maturity right there,” said Cleveland’s skipper.
Vogt pointed out that DeLauter hit this home run off Andrew Munoz, who is one of the best closers in baseball, on top of hitting it in a cold night at T-Mobile Park, which is already known for being a tough hitter’s ballpark.
What DeLauter is doing right now is really special, and if he keeps it up, the rookie is bound to make even more MLB history throughout the season and his career.
