The Cleveland Guardians are still confident in their chances of winning the ALDS, and they should be.

The Cleveland Guardians are looking to flip the page after their frustrating Game 1 loss to the Chicago White Sox in the ALDS.

Despite being down in the series, the Guardians remain extremely confident they cannot only tie it up during Monday’s Game 2 matchup, but also advance in the postseason.

Cleveland’s Correct Mindset for Game 2

Obviously, not dwelling on Game 1’s woes is the correct mindset for a team to have in the playoffs.

Immediately after Saturday’s loss, manager Stephen Vogt emphasized that it was just one game, and the series is a best-of-three-of-five for a reason.

Cleveland’s skipper noted that the team has lost plenty of games during the regular season, but bounced right back. For reference, the Guardians were 44-32 after a loss during the regular season. This team has a history of rebounding.

“Obviously would have loved to have won game one. I think anybody would want to say that, but we still like where we're at,” said Vogt pregame on Monday.

“We still have a great opportunity ahead of us to even the series tomorrow and go to Chicago with a chance to win it.”

Chase DeLauter echoed a similar sentiment ahead of Tuesday’s game during his pregame media availability.

The rookie, who speaks more like a seasoned veteran, stressed that the team needs to “flush” Saturday’s loss. DeLauter interestingly said that, with this team, no one needs to bring up what happened in Game 1. They all know the issue, and everyone knows what needs to change for Game 2 to go their way.

Even though the team is still young, it has playoff experience and knows how to move on from a postseason loss. They need to do exactly that on Monday.

Should the Guardians Be Confident?

The Guardians clearly have the right mindset heading into Game 2, but is it just as easy as moving on? Should Cleveland still be confident in its chances to win the series, even though it’s down 0-1 in the series and still playing at their home ballpark?

At least heading into Game 2, the answer has to be a yes.

Game 1 was disappointing and frustrating offensively, and the Guardians must make changes so it doesn’t happen again in Game 2. Three hits won’t win a game, let alone an entire playoff series.

That said, Cleveland can still fall back on its pitching and feel confident this can be a winning formula in October.

Gavin Williams was one of baseball’s best starting pitchers throughout the regular season, and the bullpen core of Erik Sabrowski, Hunter Gaddis, and Cade Smith is fully rested and ready to pitch on Monday.

The Guardians should feel confident that if they get a similar pitching performance in Game 2 to what they did in Game 1, then they’ll be headed to Chicago with the series tied at one game apiece.
