The Cleveland Guardians officially placed Jose Ramirez on the injured list, among other roster moves.
Stephen Vogt stood at the podium on Saturday afternoon and provided an update on three players who left with injuries in the Cleveland Guardians’ matchup against the Detroit Tigers, including superstar Jose Ramirez.
Cleveland’s skipper shared that Ramirez would likely end up on the injured list with a broken hamate bone, but the Guardians were still working out all of the logistics.
On Sunday, the Guardians officially announced multiple roster moves following Ramirez’s injury.
Jose Ramirez Placed on The 10-Day Injured List
Ramirez was officially placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday.
The good news is that it’s not the 60-day IL, so Cleveland could be hopeful that Ramirez will return within the next month or so. However, the Guardians are still looking at an extended absence of their best player.

With Ramirez landing on the injured list, the Guardians took this opportunity to activate one of their other injured infielders off the injured list in G
Arias has been out of big-league action since the beginning of April, when he suffered a hamstring injury.
The Infielder has been participating in a rehab assignment over the last week and a half, and he’s actually been swinging a hot bat, too. In 15 at-bats, Arias has a .333/.444/.933 slashline with three home runs at Triple-A.
It was unclear what role he’d have with the team once he got healthy, but now, the Guardians will rely on Arias to fill a big void in Ramirez’s absence.
Arias is starting at third base on Sunday and hitting eighth in the lineup.
George Valera Designated For Assignment
The most shocking move the Guardians made on Sunday was designating former top prospect George Valera for assignment.
With Arias coming off the 60-day injured list, the Guardians needed to make room on the 40-man roster for him. With the pitching bind Cleveland is in, cutting ties with any arms felt out of the picture, and Valera was the odd man out.
The outfielder hit second for the Guardians in the playoffs last year after providing a spark for the lineup in September.
The 2026 season hasn’t been as kind to Valera, though. He started the season on the injured list and was activated in the middle of April. He only played 13 games with the big-league team, posting a .534 OPS, before being optioned back down to Triple-A.
Valera just hasn’t been able to find his swing in the Minors since the demotion. After being optioned, the outfielder owns a 46 wRC+ at Triple-A. However, Valera is still only 25 years old.
