It looks like Cleveland Guardians' Angel Martinez has avoided a trip to the injured list.
The Cleveland Guardians have been patiently waiting over the last 18 hours to see the extent of the injury to Angel Martinez’s foot.
The 24-year-old is in the middle of a breakout season, but exited Saturday’s game early with a foot injury. Stephen Vogt said Martinez suffered the injury earlier in the week, but felt it “light up” running down a ball against the Boston Red Sox, and that he was set to undergo an MRI.
President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti provided an update on the injury and what the MRI revealed, and, all things considered, the Guardians executive gave some pretty good news on Martinez’s status.
“The MRI showed a mild mid foot strain,” explained Antonetti. “It's relatively good news, so he'll just be day to day.”
Martinez won’t be in the starting lineup for Cleveland’s series finale against the Red Sox on Sunday, but “whether or not he's available, we’ll, figure that out as the day goes on.”
If everything goes as planned, the Guardians are hoping Martinez “should be okay by Tuesday.”

As of right now, it appears that the switch-hitter has avoided a trip to the injured list.
So far this season, Martinez owns a .243/.281/.449 slash line, and if his .730 OPS holds, it would mark a career-high through the first three seasons of his big-league career. One of the key reasons for the uptick at the plate is Martinez's improved whiff rate, which is just 18.5 percent.
Martinez has also taken tremendous steps to become a better defensive outfielder, which he showed off in the series opener against the Red Sox. He currently ranks in the 88th percentile in outs above average, 91st percentile in arm value, and 94th percentile in arm strength.
With Martinez not in the lineup on Sunday and Cleveland having an off day on Monday, hopefully, the days off for rest will be exactly what he needs to get back in the lineup on Tuesday for the Guardians' series opener against the New York Yankees.
