A lot is on the line for the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays in Game 4 of the ALCS.
The ALCS has already taken a series of unexpected turns through the first three games, including Friday night’s postponement. The Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays will try again on Saturday evening, and there are even more narratives that stack up as the series continues.
Here are some of the most compelling storylines for the Guardians heading into Saturday night’s Game 4.
The Weather
Let’s get right into the elephant in the room: the weather.
There’s no rain in the forecast in downtown Cleveland for the first time in two days, and a postponement, as of right now, shouldn’t be in the cards.
That said, it will be far from a picture-perfect night at Progressive Field.
It’s going to be cold in the stands and in the field. At first pitch, the temperature is expected to be 44 degrees and drop into the upper 30s shortly after 11:00 pm, if the game lasts that long.
The wind coming off Lake Erie also has a chance to keep some hard-hit balls in the ballpark, meaning runs could be hard to come by for either team.
The weather shouldn’t threaten the game’s status, but it’s going to play a factor on Saturday night.

Cleveland’s plan heading into Game 4 on Friday night was to use Shawn Armstrong as the opener. That remains the plan heading into Saturday night.
Of course, with Armstrong being a reliever, Cleveland will only use him for one inning, maybe two, depending on his pitch count.
The big question facing the Guardians is who they turn to after Armstrong. Which pitcher will cover the bulk innings? Vogt declined to answer that question on Friday night, smiling.
The Guardians could use their Game 1 starter, Foster Griffin, on a regular rest because of Friday’s postponement. They could also turn to another lefty, Joey Cantillo, who’s been lights-out in his recent bullpen role.
Will Cleveland have a Tanner Bibee sighting, who has only pitched a third of an inning this postseason and has yet to see action in the ALCS?
Vogt has options, but that decision will remain a mystery until the second inning.

The Guardians' offense exploded in Game 1 but has been relatively quiet since. Chase DeLauter had an RBI double in Game 2, and Petey Halpin hit a go-ahead home run in Game 3, but that's been about it for Cleveland in the last 18 innings.
Generating early offense will be crucial for Cleveland in Game 4. Tampa Bay’s starter, Nick Martinez, had a 3.10 ERA and 1.09 WHIP during the regular season, but gave up two earned runs in 3.2 innings in his lone start in the playoffs.
Cleveland could be in trouble as Martinez rolls through its lineup, especially with the Rays’ top bullpen arms not having thrown since Tuesday.
Early offense could be the difference maker for the Guardians in Game 4.
