Will Brennan has found a new home with the San Francisco Giants after being DFA'd by the Cleveland Guardians earlier in the offseason.
A former member of the Cleveland Guardians organization has found a new home on the West Coast.
On Sunday morning, the San Francisco Giants announced that they had signed outfielder Will Brennan to a one-year Major League contract. The Associated Press later reported that the contract is a split deal, meaning Brennan will be guaranteed $400K, but he will make $900K when he’s on the big-league roster.
Brennan was drafted by Cleveland in the eighth round of the 2019 draft. The outfielder had always been a productive hitter in the minor leagues, owning an OPS of .763 over eight seasons. However, that success was never translated to the big leagues on a consistent basis.
The Guardians finally called Brennan up for his MLB debut at the end of the 2022 season, and he appeared in 269 games over the next four seasons. Over that period, Brennan logged a .680 OPS with 38 doubles and 14 home runs.

The injury revealed that Brennan required Tommy John surgery to heal, which ultimately forced him to miss the remainder of the season.
Then, in September, Brennan underwent sports hernia surgery, wrapping up an injury-filled year for the 28-year-old.
With Brennan’s health up in the air and Cleveland needing to open up a spot on the 40-man roster, the Guardians designated him for assignment at the beginning of November. He then elected free agency and landed with the Giants.
Even though Brennan never lived up to the hype he had as a productive hitter at the minor league level, he still has the potential to be a solid fourth outfielder and depth piece for a team.
With the Guardians' crowded outfield featuring young players in need of playing time, an opportunity to reach the big leagues was always going to be difficult for Brennan in Cleveland. Now, he’ll get a chance to break camp with the Giants and re-establish himself as a productive player.
