Brayan Rocchio is growing into a valuable everyday player for the Cleveland Guardians.

When Brayan Rocchio made his MLB debut for the Cleveland Guardians back during the 2023 season, he was a 22-year-old without a permanent position on the team and was simply just looking for a role at the big-league level.

Because Rocchio played in his first big-league game when he was so young, it’s easy to forget that he’s still just 25 and has plenty of room to progress and develop. That’s exactly what we’re watching play out right now as Rocchio is growing before our eyes one month into the 2026 season.

Looking at Cleveland’s lineup, Rocchio has really found a home as the team’s number nine hitter. Stephen Vogt loves how he gets on base for the top of the lineup, and his OBP of .338 (a career-high if it stands) backs that up.

Plus, his nine runs scored on the team are tied for third-most on the Guardians with Steven Kwan.

It isn’t just that Rocchio is getting on base more, but the quality of at-bat also deserves some more attention, too.

The switch-hitter has cut his punchouts in half with a strikeout rate of 10.7 percent so far in 2026. Rocchio is also seeing nearly one more pitch per plate appearance than he was last season.

Still, when a pitcher leaves a pitch in the zone, Rocchio has the ability to drive it, and he did just that on Saturday evening in Cleveland’s 4-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Rocchio gave the Guardians the lead in the fifth inning with a three-run homer from the left side of the plate. Cleveland never looked back after that.

“Brayan works extremely hard both defensively and offensively," said Stephen Vogt on Saturday after the game.

“he is. grown into a big leaguer. I mean, he's been here for a couple of years, and, uh, but, you know, Brian, he can play both spots on the middle infield and play them very well. And man, he's had some bigger bats for us this year.

Cleveland’s skipper bringing up the defense is a great point, too. Rocchio came up through the organization as a shortstop, but has bounced between there and second base, especially in the last few months alone. No matter what side of the infield Rocchio has played, he’s been an elite defender.

The 2026 season was all about letting the kids play and seeing what they could do with more opportunities for growth, and Rocchio is proving right now that he’s developing into a quality and valuable player on both sides of the field.
