Chase Delauter exited the Cleveland Guardians game against the Detroit Tigers early with an injury.
Chase DeLauter’s biggest criticism as a prospect was always something that he’s been unable to control: injuries.
The good: So far, through his rookie season with the Cleveland Guardians, DeLauter has avoided any major ailments or absences.
The bad: That might have all just changed during Cleveland’s contest against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
DeLauter ran into the right field wall at full speed during the top of the first inning, trying to make a play on a Gleyber Torres line drive. Even after the play was over, he stayed on the warning track for a moment to collect himself and then gracefully walked back to his position in right field.
Then, in the bottom of the first inning, DeLauter put up a quality, six-pitch at-bat against ace Tarik Skubal.
The plate appearance ended in a base hit to left field for DeLauter, but the second he stepped on first base, manager Stephen Vogt and the team trainer ran out to check on him.
It didn’t take long for DeLauter to walk back to the dugout, clearly holding his side and in discomfort.

Vogt gave a little more insight after the game.
"DeLauter, when he ran into the wall, right side rib cage contusion. He's getting a scan right now, and so, we'll have more information [on Sunday morning] on that."
While the Guardians skipper didn't give any issue news that could have a massive impact on the big league roster, it sounds like Cleveland isn't out of the clear just and must still see what the imagine finds.
Despite DeLauter being in a little bit of a slump over the last few weeks, he’s still been one of the best hitters in Cleveland’s lineup this season. The rookie has a .745 OPS with seven home runs.
Considering DeLauter's injury history, the Guardians are wise to be catious with the rookie. Still, that does beg the question: when will Chase be back in the lineup?
