Chase DeLauter is neearing a return for the Cleveland Guardians, but Jose Ramirez and Angel Martinez are still a ways off.
The big storyline that will continue to follow the Cleveland Guardians for the foreseeable future is the trio of injuries to Angel Martinez, Jose Ramirez, and Chase DeLauter in a span of 30 minutes that occurred two weeks ago.
The Guardians desperately need their top three hitters back.
As for the trio of injured Guardians, Stephen Vogt didn’t have many new updates on their status when he spoke to the media on Friday afternoon. Then again, when it comes to injuries, sometimes no news is good news.
DeLauter is still inactive but is beginning to ramp up baseball activities, and Cleveland is hopeful he can return to the lineup sooner rather than later.
“DeLauter is trending very well. We're hoping he's going to be active at some point this homestead,” said Cleveland’s skipper. “He is continuing to progress the way we'd like him to check in boxes and moving that direction.”
The Guardians kicked off this new stretch of home games on Friday evening. They have three games against the Seattle Mariners, three against the Texas Rangers, and four against the Chicago White Sox.
It sounds more than likely he will re-join the team at some point during this stretch, but Cleveland’s skipper didn’t mention if he’d need some sort of rehab assignment to get his timing back. Still, getting DeLauter back during this stretch would be a massive boost for the lineup.

Mandatory Credit: David Richard-Imagn ImagesAs for the other injured duo of Ramirez and Martinez, Vogt said they are still in the recovery process from their injuries, especially Ramirez, who underwent surgery.
Even though none of these three players are in the lineup right now, Vogt did point out how great it was to see them in the locker room and, at the very least, have them back around the team.
“It's just good to see them,” continued Vogt. “ We missed them on this road trip. I know they missed us and as you guys know, those two guys [Ramirez and Martinez] can brighten up a room real quick.”
It’s still going to be a while before Ramirez and Martinez are back playing baseball; a realistic timeline is probably after the All-Star Break.
With the Guardians still shorthanded, the lineup must figure out ways to score runs, or by the time Cleveland has its stars back, it may already be out of a playoff spot.
