The Cleveland Guardians promoted Ralphy Velazquez to Triple-A after a hot start at Double-A
The Cleveland Guardians are currently undergoing a successful youth movement at the big-league level, with Chase DeLauter and Travis Bazzana putting the lineup in a good spot. If you can believe it, the best may still be yet to come as one of the Guardians' most promising young players is getting closer to making his MLB debut.
On Monday, Cleveland promoted their No. 3-ranked prospect, Ralphy Velazquez, to Triple-A after starting the 2026 Minor League season at Double-A. The 21-year-old is now just one stop away from being a member of the Guardians’ big-league roster.
It was pretty clear that Velázquez was ready for the next stop after seeing what he’s done to Double-A pitching so far this year. The left-handed hitter owns a .265/.342/.497 slash line coming out to a wRC+ of 136. Ralphy has already hit seven home runs and three triples.
It’s also clear that Velazquez is seeing the ball at the plate incredibly well, as he owns a walk rate of 9.6 percent and a strikeout rate of 19.1 percent.
Velazquez’s final game as a member of the RubberDucks was a multi-homer affair; a perfect way to send him off to the next level.

Andrew Dolph / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn ImagesFlashback to three years ago, when the Guardians made Ralphy their first-round pick in the 2023 draft, there was clearly potential, but Velazquez was still just 18 years old. He’s already flying up Cleveland’s prospect rankings, and Ralphy is nowhere close to reaching his full potential.
Cleveland typically slow-plays the development and promotion of the youngest prospects in their farm system, but Velazquez has been a pleasant exception. He was only promoted to Double-A for the final month of the 2025 season, and spent just as much time at that level in 2026 before being elevated.
With it still May and Velazquez already being at Triple-A, there is a very real possibility that the 20-year-old is hitting in Cleveland’s big-league lineup at some point this season. At the very latest, he’ll be an option for the Guardians at the very start of the 2027 campaign.
