The Cleveland Guardians re-signed Ben Lively to a two-year Minor League contract.

Ben Lively finally found a home with the Cleveland Guardians in 2024 after facing uncertainty in his baseball career, including a trip overseas to play in the KBO for a year.

Even though the Guardians designated him for assignment early in the offseason, Lively is sticking around with the organization, as the veteran signed a two-year minor league deal to return to the Guardians.

Cleveland didn't want to DFA one of the most consistent pitchers in their rotation, but they were forced to in order to make room on the 40-man roster. He then elected free agency after being outrighted to Triple-A on Nov. 6.

Lively became a symbol of stability for the Guardians throughout 2024, but an injury at the beginning of 2025 turned from bad to worse.

Lively was placed on the injured list on May 13 with a right forearm strain, which was later revealed to be an injury that would require Tommy John surgery to heal.

Just like that, his season was over, and a disappointing blow to Cleveland's rotation.

In 38 starts with the Guardians, dating back to 2024, Lively owned a 3.68 ERA and a 1.232 WHIP with Cleveland.

Lively will rehab just about all of the 2026 season. Based on similar injuries and timelines, he could be an option for the team at the end of the season, but a return to the big leagues feels more likely in 2027.

The reason he chose to stay and re-sign with the Guardians was that he simply felt comfortable with the team and organization.

“I’ve been around the block. It’s a great medical staff. That's all I can really focus on, is the great group of guys here. It's hard to get away from this kind of culture that's been built in this building. It's just fun to be around no matter what," Lively told MLB.com.

There's a lot to be said about Lively wanting to return to the Guardians and a team in which he feels comfortable and enjoys being around.

Hopefully, once the right-hander is healthy, he can get back on the mound and continue being a consistent arm for Cleveland.
