Peyton Pallette struck out three batters in his first Spring Training appearance with the Cleveland Guardians.

The Cleveland Guardians decided to take a chance on Minor League pitcher Peyton Pallette over the winter and picked him with their selection in MLB’s Rule 5 Draft.

It made plenty of sense for the organization that has a history of developing arms; the Guardians needed more bullpen depth, and Pallette had a strong resume.

Pallette had yet to pitch in the Cactus League for the Guardians, but finally got into a game onTuesday, and he showed why Cleveland is so high on the pitching prospect.

The 24-year-old had a shaky start to the outing, walking and giving up a single to the first two hitters he saw, allowing runners at the corners with no one out.

Instead of succumbing to the moment, Pallette rose to the occasion. With a healthy amount of pressure on him for a Spring Training out, Pallette locked in after that. Pallette promptly struck out the next three batters he faced, getting himself out of the inning with no damage.

“That was awesome,” said Stephen Vogt after the game. “To see him rebound, he was lights out after the first hitter.
Really good stuff out of Peyton. It was fun to watch.”

Pallette is known for having a deep pitch-mix, but he kept it fairly simple in his first game of the spring. Of the 20 pitches the right-hander threw, 12 of them were his fastball, which generated three whiffs. The heater had an average pitch velocity of 97.3 mph and a top speed of 98.0 mph.

Pallette also generated two whiffs on his slider, which he threw four times.

The reason for the delay in Pallette’s Spring Debut was due to right shoulder fatigue. Thankfully, he’s healthy now and can show the Guardians what he can provide to its bullpen inan in-game setting.

With Pallette being a Rule 5 pick, he must make the team’s big-league roster coming out of camp, or he’ll be sent back to his original team, the Chicago White Sox.

Even though Vogt said over the weekend that the team doesn’t want Pallette to get too caught up in the results and just go pitch, Pallette was certainly impressive in his first spring appearance with the Guardians.
