The Cleveland Guardians went 3-3 on their road trip against the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers.
The Cleveland Guardians are heading back to Progressive Field for a two-series home stand after their recent road trip that took them to New York and Arlington, Texas.
There were some highs and lows for Cleveland’s time on the road, but in the end, the Guardians finished with a 3-3 record against two of the American League’s top teams.
Looking at the record in the larger picture, that could be considered a successful road trip. That positive is what manager Stephen Vogt focused on as he reflected on his team’s performance over the last week.
“.500 road trip into two tough cities. Obviously, we wanted to win one today and have a happy flight, and we're still gonna have a happy flight. That was a really good road trip. Anytime you come home from a road trip, .500, you're happy.” said Vogt on Sunday.
Yes, splitting the difference against two tough teams certainly has its positives, but that doesn’t mean Cleveland is satisfied.
Two things can be true: the Guardians can be happy going .500 against two tough teams, while still wanting and expecting more from their roster.
Vogt continued, “You want more. We want more than that. We want to win more games, but I couldn't be more thrilled at the way we played overall on this road trip. Two one-run losses and tough games, where we just wind up able to get enough offense. And then obviously today got out of hand quick. So we'll regroup. We'll keep working and be ready to go tomorrow.”
One area where the Guardians may want more from is consistency from their lineup. As a group, Cleveland hit .220/.277/.390 with an 85wRC+ on the road trip. However, most of that production came in the first two games against the Yankees, where Cleveland scored a total of 14 runs.
As Cleveland heads back to Progressive Field to take on the Yankees again, and then the Detroit Tigers, finding more consistency will be a focal point for this group to keep the momentum going after what Vogt called a road trip the team is happy with.
