Can the Guardians Bounce Back vs Tigers?
Coming into this series with the Tigers, the Guardians will be looking to get back on track. After earning a big win in the first game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the last series, Cleveland proceeded to drop the next two contests.
This was especially tough since the Guardians are currently fighting for their playoff lives, and Toronto was right behind them in the standings. But this matchup with Detroit offers Cleveland some new life, giving them another chance to make a statement.
Manager Stephen Vogt isn't worried about his team, but rather is looking forward to the challenge that comes with a pennant race. Vogt believes that the Guardians control their own destiny when it comes to the playoffs.
“We control our destiny,” Vogt said. “We're playing a lot of the teams that we're either competing for a Wild Card spot with or that we're chasing in the division. You can't ask for anything more.
“We just need to go play good baseball and win games. We have control over that.”
Cleveland enters the game against Detroit with a record of 70-70 on the season, sitting in second place within the American League Central. Despite everything that has gone against the Guardians this year, they are only three games back of the first-place Chicago White Sox.
The Guardians are also right in the thick of the AL wild-card race, giving them a shot to make the playoffs. But games against teams like the Tigers will ultimately determine everything for this group.
