Travis Bazzana's two home runs led the Cleveland Guardians past the Houston Astros
Travis Bazzana has put together a really nice rookie season as the Cleveland Guardians second baseman. The most encouraging sign is that the 23-year-old is only getting better as he gets more big-league at-bats.
As the Guardians took down the Houston Astros, the rookie achieved an impressive first in his big-league career: his first multi-home-run game.
During Bazzana's first at-bat, he wasted no time swinging at the first pitch he saw, which was a fastball in the middle-top of the zone, and smoked it over the right center field wall. The home run traveled 382 feet and had an exit velocity of 104 mph. More importantly, it gave the Guardians an early 1-0 lead.
Later on in the fifth inning, Bazzana was back at the plate with runners on second and third base. He got into a slightly deeper count against the Astros’ starting pitcher and hit another ball out of the park for his second home run of the game, extending Cleveland’s lead to 6-1 at the time.
These long balls were also remarkable considering how well Arrighetti has limited giving up the long ball so far this year. The Houston pitcher had only given up three home runs through his first 63 innings, but gave up two to Bazzana in three at-bats.

He also came through with an RBI base hit in the seventh inning to tack another run on for the Guardians.
Bazzana finished going 4-for-4 at the plate. He became the fourth rookie in franchise history to log four hits and two home runs in a game.
Cleveland's rookie downplayed the significance of the game and centered his postgame reaction on keeping his approach, and games like that will come.
"If you stay the course with a good process and continue to put the work in the cage pre game, those days will come and you just gotta prepare as best you can every day and get fun, fun games like that," said Bazzana after the game.
With the mindset that Bazzana has every game, whether he's getting results or not, he's always one swing away from making an impact, and he showed that on Saturday night.
