What’s still on the line for the Guardians is a chance to win the American League Central for the third consecutive season, which would give them that No. 2 seed in the playoffs and a much-needed bye in the Wild Card round.
Cleveland could clinch the division as soon as Saturday night if all the dominoes fall its way.

Cleveland may have won the series opener on Saturday night, but it wasn’t a clean game whatsoever. The Guardians must play a better brand of baseball during the second game of this series to give themselves a chance at clinching the division.
Tanner Bibee will take the mound on Saturday with this potential clinch situation on the line. Bibee has struggled in September, posting an 8.24 ERA in four starts.
It’s not the end-of-season hat he or the Guardians would have liked, but all would be forgiven and back on track if Bibee can pitch a gem and help get Cleveland one step closer to another division title.

If the Guardians win and the White Sox lose, the division is all Cleveland’s. However, if the Guardians win and the White Sox win, the winner will be decided in game 162 on Sunday.
A key thing to remember in this tight division race is that the Guardians do not have the tiebreaker over the White Sox: the head-to-head season record. Because of this, Cleveland cannot finish with the same record as Chicago, or Chicago will win the division title.
