Once the 2026 MLB season starts, Jose Ramirez will start a fresh, new, re-worked contract extension with the Cleveland Guardians; a deal that will take him through his age 39 season, and likely keep him in the city and the organization for the rest of his career.
Even though Ramirez will see a raise in pay and have even more committed years with the organization, the goal for the future Hall of Famer remains the same: he wants to win a World Series, and he wants to win it in Cleveland.
During Thursday’s press conference, announcing the superstar’s new deal, Ramirez reiterated the ultimate goal to reporters.
“The ultimate goal remains the same, to win a World Series,” said Ramirez through his interpreter, Auggie Rivero. “For me, it’s important to stay here. The commitment to continue to compete and win a World Series.”

Since then, the Cleveland Guardians have been back to the playoffs three times out of the last four seasons, but have lost in the ALDS, ALCS, and ALWS.
The Guardians have come close to getting back to the Fall Classic for the first time since 2016, but they’ve come up just short in each of their playoff runs.
Obviously, winning a World Series is no easy task, especially for a small-market team like Cleveland, which is consistently low in the payroll pecking order. However, Ramirez isn’t backing down from that challenge; he knows the task at hand and how difficult it is.
“I knew that from the get-go [that it would be difficult,” continued Ramirez. “I know it's gonna be very different for us to get to that point, but that doesn't discourage me from working for, preparing to get ready. I know my role is trying to help the young guys to try to achieve that. I know at some point, we'll be able to.”
Hopefully, by the time Ramirez’s playing career is over, he can raise the Commissioner’s Trophy and call himself a World Series Champion.
