Jose Ramirez etches his name in the Cleveland Guardians' record books, again.
Just a few days ago, during the Cleveland Guardians' first home stand of the season, Jose Ramirez became the leader in games played in the Cleveland Guardians franchise history. One record that Ramirez called the most important to him.
While all the dust is still settling from that monumental accomplishment, Ramirez set another Guardians record in Cleveland’s matchup against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night.
In the superstar’s first at-bat, he smoked a line drive off Martin Perez, which quickly sailed over the left field wall for a home run.
This was Ramirez’s second home run of the season, but more importantly, it gave him a home run against all over 29 MLB teams, making Ramirez the first player to accomplish this feat in franchise history.
Ramirez's extension that he signed over the offseason will essentially keep him in Cleveland through the rest of his career. He’ll likely never have the opportunity to hit a homer against every team, but that’s okay.
At a game level, this home run also set the tone for what would end up being a 6-0 victory for the Guardians.
What made it a perfect game for Ramirez to set this home run record is that his biggest play of the game wasn’t even the first inning solo shot.
In the sixth inning, Rhys Hoskins hit a ball weakly to third base. Austin Riley tried tagging Ramirez, then going to first base to get the double play and get out of the inning, but Ramirez smartly avoided the tag, allowing a run to score.
This play is what Stephen Vogt focused on more after the game, as it highlights Ramirez’s overall baseball IQ, which is what makes him so great.

He's such a great hitter, but he's the best, one of the best baserunners in the game, and he's smart, knows the game,” said Cleveland’s skipper. “He’s always thinking ahead.”
Both the homer that Jose hit and the tag he avoided were key moments in the game and directly led to Cleveland’s victory. He simply knows how to impact the game in a variety of ways.
With Ramirez setting another record, the only question left is which record he is going to break next?
