Juan Brito logged two hits in his Cleveland Guardians and MLB debut.

CLEVELAND - “We’ve been excited about Juan for a really long time,” said Cleveland Guardians skipper Stephen Vogt ahead of the prospect’s MLB debut on Tuesday afternoon.

After landing with the Cleveland organization as a High-A player following the 2022 season, Juan Brito finally made an appearance in his Major League game with the Guardians on Tuesday afternoon in their matchup against the Kansas City Royals.

When Brito was making his way through Cleveland’s farm system, he gained a reputation as one of the better hitters in the Minor League system. The switch-hitter is a patient, not afraid to take walks, and when he sees a pitch he likes, he can put a jolt in it.

That was exactly what the Guardians saw play out in Brito’s debut, and the prospect even contributed in a big way in Cleveland’s 2-1, walk-off win over the Royals on Tuesday.

Brito was in the lineup as the sixth hitter in Cleveland’s starting lineup. His first at-bat came in the third inning, and it ended in a standing double to left field. Even on a near-freezing day at Progressive Field, the ball came off Brito’s bat at 104 mph.

The other impressive part of Brito’s first career hit is that he wasn’t chasing anything. He worked a 3-1 count and forced Noah Cameron to throw him a strike, which the Guardians hitter slapped into the outfield.

It was a similar story in Brito’s third at-bat, which ended in his second hit of the game. The prospect was patient, got ahead in the count, and pulled the ball over Bobby Witt Jr. at shortstop for a base hit.

“That's as confident and comfortable as I've seen him,” said Stephen Vogt after the game.

“Three spring trainings now, and he looked ready to go. Great at-bats; I thought he had great bets all day and a couple nice plays in the field. So a really fun day for Juan, and what a great debut.”

With Gabriel Arias on the injured list for what could be an extended absence, Brito is in line to get plenty of playing time at second base. If Tuesday’s debut was any indication, the 24-year-old could also provide a nice boost in Cleveland’s lineup, too.
