The Cleveland Guardians provided the latest updates on injured players Jose Ramirez and Angel Martinez.
The Cleveland Guardians are still feeling the aftershocks of Saturday’s win over the Detroit Tigerers, where the team lost three players to injury mid-game.
The team did share the latest injury news and updates regarding Jose Ramirez and Angel Martinez ahead of Tuesday’s game.
Jose Ramirez
The Guardians officially placed Ramirez on the injured list on Sunday, but still didn’t have any updates on surgery or a timeline for when the star could return to the field.
That changed on Tuesday as the team announced that Ramirez officially underwent a procedure to remove the hook of his fractured hamate bone. Dr. Thomas Graham was “pleased with the results of the procedure,” and expected a recovery time of five to seven weeks.
Looking ahead at the calendar, that would put a potential return for Ramirez around the end of July or the first week of August, if all goes well in his rehab and recovery.

Cleveland announced ahead of their series against the Milwaukee Brewers that Angel Martinez would be joining Ramirez on the 10-day injured list with a non-displaced left foot fracture.
Martinez left Saturday’s game after fouling a ball off a pitch from Tarik Skubal.
In a corresponding move, the Guardians recalled outfielder Petey Halpin from Triple-A to take Martinez’s place on the big-league roster.
Martinez’s latest injury diagnosis does come as a slight surprise.
Vogt said on Sunday that Martinez was considered day-to-day with the foot contusion and could possibly have been available off the bench. (Of course, Sunday’s game was postponed, so that never came to fruition.)
The hope was that Martinez would be right back in the lineup for the Brewers series. Instead, Stephen Vogt said the outfielder came in on Monday and was still not feeling well, and that he was diagnosed with a fracture after further testing.
Martinez's timetable is set to be four-to-six weeks.
Losing Ramirez for over a month was already a blow for Cleveland’s offense, but losing arguably the team’s second-best hitter this season in Martinez will only make it more difficult for the Guardians to stay afloat over the next few weeks.
Martinez currently leads the Guardians with 11 home runs, while logging a .239/.276/.442 slash line. His .718 OPS also ranked fourth on Cleveland’s roster, with Ramirez leading the way with a .757 OPS.
