Cleveland Guardians star Jose Ramirez has been playing very well in the postseason so far.
The Cleveland Guardians were able to overcome a 0-2 hole against the Chicago White Sox, evening up the series over the last few days.
Cleveland dropped the first two games of the American League Division Series at home to the White Sox, leading to a lot of concern about the fate of the season. But the Guardians were able to show their grit, taking both games in Chicago to force a win-or-take-all contest back at home.
Game 5 between the Guardians and the White Sox will show which AL Central team is better, culminating a long back-and-forth matchup this season. Both teams have taken games on the road already, and now Cleveland may have some real momentum heading into the final game.
Part of why the Guardians were able to complete the comeback to tie the series up has been the play from slugger Jose Ramirez. After struggling at the plate for most of the season, Ramirez has come to life in the series against Chicago.
Over the first four games of the series, Ramirez has hit .267 with one home run, five RBIs, and he's drawn four walks. The Guardians star has been getting hot at the right time for this team, and his play has caused MLB analyst Mike Ferrin to send a warning about this team.
For the year, Ramirez hit just .235 with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs, while posting an OPS of .688. There was a lot of talk about the Guardians slugger entering the playoffs, and how he needed to deliver for this team to go on a run.
So far, Ramirez has come through for Cleveland, and his bat has been on fire over the first few games of the series. The Guardians are going to need him to put together another strong outing against the White Sox in Game 5, helping them advance to the ALCS.
Ramirez has been one of the leaders for this team over the years, making his issues this season at the plate even more confusing. But star players shine when the lights are brightest, and Ramirez has certainly done that so far.
The winner of this series will be taking on the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS, giving whichever team a strong challenge. But for now, the Guardians are focusing solely on getting past the White Sox, and Game 5 could be a classic playoff game between two division rivals.
