Jose Ramirez and the Cleveland Guardians are reportedly working toward a contract reworking and extension that will keep the superstar third baseman with the franchise through at least the 2032 season.
The deal is reportedly worth $175 million over seven years, but there is more to it than simply a dollar figure. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal also reported additional details on the salary, along with other bonuses and perks that will accompany the new deal.
First up, Rosenthal is reporting that Ramirez’s annual salary with the Guardians will be $25 million from 2026 through 2032. However, there will be $10 million deferred each season, totaling $70 million in deferred money if the contract is completed.
J-Ram reportedly has incentives in his contract for awards packages. For example, he would earn $500K for winning MVP, $300K for coming in second or third in the MVP voting, $150K for coming in fourth or fifth in the MVP race.
In 2025, Ramirez finished third in the MVP voting, just behind Cal Raleigh and Aaron Judege.

Even if Ramirez were to earn all of those bonuses in one season, on top of his base salary, including the dferres, he’s still being underpaid considering the value he brings in the batter’s box and on the field.
MLB Network recently named him the No. 5 player in MLB heading into the 2026 season. Aaron Judge, who was ranked ahead of Ramirez, has an AAV of $40 million, and Shohei Ohtani has an AAV of $46 million.
Some of the other perks reportedly in Ramirez’s deal include one round-trip private jet and a roundtrip and a to and from the All-Star Game. The star was also received, and an additional hotel room on the road, outside his typical suite, was provided.
It was clear that Ramirez wants to stay in Cleveland for his entire career, or else he wouldn’t have signed a deal for so far under market value. By the time his playing career is over, Ramirez will undoubtedly be the best player in franchise history, both considering the stats he continues to put up and the legacy he’s leaving by embracing the city and truly calling it home.
