Petey Halpin has the skillset to help the Cleveland Guardians in a variety of games.
The Cleveland Guardians already had a fairly good idea of what type of player Petey Halpin was when they called him up to make his 2026 season debut on May 1.
The Guardians already had a sample size of Halpin's skill set as an elite defender and base runner last September, and got a glimpse of what his ceiling could be during his widely successful Spring Training at the plate.
Now, one week into his first big-league stint of the season, Halpin is already making his impact and presence known.
Simply looking at Halpin's stats doesn't do justice to what he's been able to provide the Guardians in a small sample size. Yes, he may have a .368 OPS, but Halpin is still finding ways to help the Guardians win.
For starters, on the very first play of Halpin's 2026 big-league season, a ball was hit to him in deep center field. He timed it up perfectly, jumped up, and made a leaping catch to steal extra bases.
Halpin made the impact felt once again in Cleveland's victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday afternoon.
The rookie outfielder stole two bases, made a handful of catches in center field, stole two bases, and came around to score a run, too.
Halpin even accomplished a major milestone against the Royals, logging his first big-league RBI.

If I can turn a walk into a double, then that’s something I’m looking to do.”
All of these little things can add up, and Cleveland's manager is taking note of that.
“He just changes the game," said Stephen Vogt.
"He impacts the game, whether it's defense, base running, at the plate. He impacts the game. And he can change a game by himself with his legs, with his ability to go get the ball in the outfield [with his] great arm. He can hurt teams in multiple ways."
When looking at Cleveland's young core, there are a handful of players with superstar potential, such as Chase DeLauter and Travis Bazzana.
Halpin may not have that same ceiling, but he certainly has the skillset to be an impactful player on the Guardians for the foreseeable future, and he's making that impact known so far during the season.
