Cleveland Guardians' Travis Bazzana is encouraged with his ramp-up so far during spring training.

Travis Bazzana was part of the Cleveland Guardians' depth roster last year during spring training, but now, in 2026, the No. 1 prospect in the team’s farm system is getting real opportunities to start games and face off against big-league level pitching.

Of course, there’s been some clear signs of growing pains, but some really exciting glimpses of the player Bazzana can be once he reaches the big leagues, hopefully sometime later this season.

Bazzana wrapped up playing in his third spring training game for the Guardians on Tuesday, as Cleveland dropped 11-3 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He’s now hitting .250 (2-for-8) with an OPS of .958 in his limited Cactus Game action.

Stats only mean so much during spring training, though.

Bazzana said after Tuesday’s game that he feels good, and that was evident in the second inning when he demolished a three-run homer. The ball left the bat with an exit velocity of 107.8 mph and traveled 423 feet.

Bazzana admitted after the game that he had been a “touch late on some fastballs early on.” However, on that swing specifically, he was “on the barrel [and] just was a little earlier on that one and drove it to the middle of the field, too. That was good.”

“I've been feeling like it's pretty close right now. I've been hitting the ball hard,” Bazzana continued. “Just I'm trying to go out there and compete and get a good pitch to hit and drive it. Make the most of every at-bat. I got a good pitch there and was on time.”

Hitting has always been Bazzana’s calling card, but he said he also feels comfortable and good in the reps he’s gotten on defense, too.

“I feel good [at second base],” Bazzana said. “I gotta continue to keep making the rangy plays. But on the plays I've had, I felt good and just gotta keep putting in the work.
But overall, I felt well.”

It’s nice to see that Bazzana has been able to get some solid work in and feels good after the first few spring games. From this point, the 23-year-old will depart Goodyear to meet up with Team Australia for the World Baseball Classic.

Perhaps playing in a meaningful, high-leverage game early in the calendar year will help him kick off a strong 2026 season.
