Stuart Fairchild is set to make his Cleveland Guardians debut after the organization selected his contract on Friday afternoon amid Steven Kwan’s absence from the team.
The Guardians were high on the veteran outfielder during Spring Training, and he finally has a chance to help the big-league club. Here’s what Fairchild could bring to the team during his stint.

Fairchild Brings Versatile Defense
The key to getting at-bats in the Cleveland lineup starts with defense, because they love their players who can move around the diamond.
Fairchild can certainly do just that as the veteran has spent time in all three outfield positions throughout his big-league career.
The vast majority of Fairchild’s time in the field has come in center field. Considering he is taking Kwan’s spot on the roster, and who Cleveland’s other options are, that’s precisely where he fits best and where he’ll likely play, but left field and right field are still in play.

Throughout Fairchild’s career, he’s always been a better hitter against left-handed pitching. Cleveland doesn’t have a ton of pure right0handed hitter on the roster, which immediately paves the way for playing time for Fairchild as long as he’s on the roster.
Since making his debut in 2021, Fairchild owns a .246/.343/.404 slash line against left-handed pitching. Right now, the Red Sox are scheduled to face left-hander Ranger Suarez during Sunday’s series finale. It would be shocking if Fairchild wasn’t in the starting lineup for that game against Boston.
Stephen Vogt’s Thoughts On Fairchild
Manager Stephen Vogt is clearly a fan of the newest member of his roster, and someone he used to be a teammate with back during his playing days.
Vogt sees Fairchild’s addition as “An opportunity for us to get Stuart up here. Another right-handed bat that can play outfield has had a lot of success for his left-handed pitching. Whether it's a weapon off the bench or you know, we're facing a lefty on Sunday. So, felt like it was time for Stuart to come join us.”
The Guardians tend to use every player on their roster, so in some capacity or another, Fairchild is bound to see some action for Cleveland this weekend.
