Petey Halpin has the potential to be a key contributor for the Cleveland Guardians' outfield position group.
There’s nothing more exciting than watching a minor leaguer who has grinded their way through the farm system finally step on the field to make their big-league debut.
At some point soon, Petey Halpin’s dream of being an MLB player will come true as the Cleveland Guardians recalled him from Columbus on Saturday morning.
Here’s what to expect of the 23-year-old in his first stint with the big-league club.
Halpin Is A Contact Hitter
The Guardians could use some more thump in their lineup, but Halpin won’t bring that to the table.
He does have 14 home runs and 29 doubles this season with the Columbus Clippers, but Halpin’s max exit velocity this season is just 109.9 mph, and he has a hard-hit rate of just 34.1 percent.
Most of Halpin’s damage will be done by finding gaps and hugging the foul line on either side of the outfield.

Typically, high strikeout rates are saved for power-hitters. However, even though Halpin isn’t a home run threat, he still has a tendency to swing and miss quite a bit.
At Triple-A this season, the left-handed hitter has a strikeout rate of 28.2% and a walk rate of only 9.2%.
Could this be an even bigger issue at the big-league level? Absolutely.
That said, when Halpin does make contact, he typically finds a ton of success carrying a BABIP of .332 at Triple-A this season.
Where Will Halpin Play for the Guardians?
Halpin is an outfielder and will exclusively play out there at the big-league level. That said, there is one outfield position he’s spent the overwhelming majority of his minor league career: center field.
The 23-year-old has played in a total of 489 games at the minor league level, and has appeared in center field in 379 of them. In 2025, Halpin started 106 games in center, compared to just fourteen games in left field and four games in right.
With Steven Kwan as the everyday player in left field, and CJ Kayfus, Jhonkensy Noel, and George Valera in the mix in right field, center is all Halpin’s.
