Jose Ramirez has long known he wanted to spend his entire career with the Cleveland Guardians.

Jose Ramirez is under contract with the Cleveland Guardians through the 2032 season, meaning he’ll more than likely end his career playing for the same organization that signed him all the way back in 2009, leaving millions and millions of dollars on the table along the way.

Ramirez has long expressed his love not only for the guardias’ organization but also for the city of Cleveland as a whole, but what made now the time he wanted to ensure he remained with the team through his age-39 season?

The superstar said it really came down to his love and pride for the city, and he reassured that he wants to make history with this organization.

“It’s just like it came to my mind. Obviously, there's no clear reason, but for me, just having that stability that I know I could do it because I want to, I want to put up the numbers. I want to help the team. I want to make history here.
So for me, it's important to achieve that now,” said Ramirez through his interpreter, Auggie Rivero, last week.

Again, while the history with the organization is important for Ramirez, he also repeatedly highlighted wanting to represent and give back to the city for everything it has done for him.

“I feel I have the same sense of pride from Cleveland than I have from the [Dominican Republic],” continued Ramirez. “I can call myself that I'm a 50-50: 50 percent Dominican, 50 percent Clevelandender. My sons were born here, so I take that pride of the city, and what it represents to me.”

Even though Ramirez just signed this recent extension to all but officially make him a Guardian for life, he’s known for a long time that this is where he wanted to spend his entire career.

“Since I signed the first contract, I felt that something came to my mind, that that would be my goal to try to complete my career here,” continued Ramirez.

“Because let's not forget, I was rejected plenty of times when I was a player. So whenever this thing gave me the opportunity, that's the way I was able to give back for that opportunity [they] gave me when I was a lot younger.”
