Outside of adding some arms to the bullpen from the open market, the Cleveland Guardians have yet to make a big move to add to the position player group this offseason.
There are still plenty of options on the free agent market, but the Guardians typically make their big addition through trade. Luckily, there is one team that could be a perfect trade partner for Cleveland: the Baltimore Orioles.
Cleveland’s big need is no secret; the Guardians must add more depth to the outfield, even if it’s just a backup option for injury-prone rookies Chase DeLauter and George Valera.
The Orioles have too many outfielders they know what to do with, which should interest Cleveland.
Right now, Colton Cowser, Heston Kjerstad, Tyler O’Neill, Leody Taveras, and Taylor Ward will all be fighting for playing time. That doesn’t even include Reed Trimble, who could force his way onto the big-league roster at some point during the regular season.
Cowser could certainly add some immediate pop to Cleveland’s lineup, coming off a 16-home run season. Kjserstad hasn’t lived up to his potential yet, but he's still 26 and has favorable metrics. O’Neill could add a much-needed right-handed presence to the outfield.

There have been rumors that Baltimore is still looking for a way to strengthen its starting rotation, and Cleveland has enough starting depth where they could feel comfortable trading some of it away if that means adding another bat to the lineup.
The Guardians ended the 2025 season with a six-man rotation, but need to get that down to five before Opening Day.
Logan Allen’s value may never be higher, and Joey Cantillo had a strong finish, but he is out of minor league options. Could either of those two pitchers have interested the Orioles enough
The bottom line is that the Orioles have more than enough outfielders, and the Guardians have extra starting pitching. That could be the blueprint for one more big trade before spring training or Opening Day.
