Kahlil Watson has impressed several members of the Cleveland Guardians coaching staff so far during spring training, including manager Stephen Vogt.
However, it’s not just those inside the Guardians organization who have taken notice of what the 22-year-old is doing, not just in Cactus League play, but also how he ended the 2025 Minor League season, too.
MLB.com released its top-30 prospects heading into the 2026 season, and out of everyone in Cleveland’s organization, Watson was the highest riser in terms of ranking.
Watson wasn’t even ranked among the team’s top prospects this time last year. Now, he’s considered the No. 15 player in Cleveland’s farm system.
"A prep shortstop from North Carolina, Watson was one of the top prospects in the 2021 Draft. It's taken several years for him to fulfill his power-speed potential, but he turned a corner in 2025 after making the full-time transition to center field, where he's shown great defensive aptitude with little experience. Platoon concerns remain at the plate, but he's got 20-20 potential and is on the brink of his big league debut," wrote Ben Weinrib.

The left-handed hitter split time between Double-A and Triple-A last season, and had a combined slash line of .250/.346/.467. Watson ended the season with an OPS of .938 in the final month of the year.
There's certainly a lot to like about the player he's developing into.
Watson isn't part of the immediate crop of players the Guardians want to give opportunities to at the big-league level. Chase DeLauter, George Valera, CJ Kayfus, and possibly even Petey Halpin are ahead of Watson on the depth chart.
That said, if Watson continues to swing a hot bat in the Minor League once the season starts, and the Guardians need an outfielder at the big-league level due to injuries or underperformances, it wouldn't be shocking in the slightest to see Watson make his high MLB debut at some point later in 2026.
