The latest player to receive that honor was Kahlil Watson, as he played in his first MLB game on Wednesday afternoon.
Here are some first impressions from the 23-year-old rookie following his first MLB game.
Watson Goes Hitless, But The Process Was There

Even though Watson didn’t end up on base, his process was still there, and he put together some nice at-bats in the process. In his second plate appearance of the day, the left-hander made nice contact on a lineout to left field, which had an exit velocity of 92 mph.
Outside of the last pitch in Watson’s first at-bat, he did a really good job of swinging at pitches in the strike zone and not chasing. That’s a tendency that he must continue with his big-league at-bats moving forward.
If the outfielder keeps making hard contact and swinging at pitches in the zone, that first big-league hit will come in no time, and hopefully, something even more.

Watson has always been known for his offensive upside, but he saved the game early on with his phenomenal catch in right field.
With runners on first and second, Joey Ortiz hit a sharp line drive out to right field. If the ball had gotten down, it would have easily scored both runners, giving the Brewers an early three-run lead. Instead, Watson made a really nice running and diving catch to record the out and end the inning.
“Kahlil, what an unbelievable catch,” said Stephen Vogt after the game. “First day in the big leagues, and we know he's a great athlete, good outfielder. Good at bats too.”
With the injuries the Guardians are dealing with right now, Watson will get plenty of opportunities to show the potential to be a key contributor for Cleveland moving forward.
