Guardians Prospect Making ‘Huge Impression’ in Spring Training cover image

Kahlil Watson has caught the eye of the Cleveland Guardians coaching staff so far during Spring Training.

The Cleveland Guardians have several players throughout the organization playing solid baseball since the Cactus League slate began last week. One of those players is the organization’s No. 18-ranked prospect, Kahlil Watson

Watson has truly made the most of each one of his opportunities so far this spring. He’s seen eight at-bats across five acorss games, and is hitting .625 (five-for-eight) with a double, triple, and a walk in those appearances.

Everything that Watson is doing on the field and in the batter’s box is even catching the attention of the coaching staff. Stephen Vogt said that the prospect is making a “huge impression in this camp.”

It’s not even just the results that have Vogt excited, the manager said, “He's an awesome kid.
Great work ethic.”

Watson’s overall hitting development has come a long way over the last few years, and continues to trend in the right direction for an eventual big-league call-up, perhaps even in 2026. The biggest question is where he’ll end up playing in the field.

When the Guardians traded for Watson at the 2023 deadline, he was a middle infielder in the Mimami Marlins organization, but since joining Cleveland, he’s successfully made the transition to the outfield, and Vogt likes what he’s seen in all of those positions.

"He looks mature in the outfield. You can tell just from me watching play outfield last spring to this spring. He made tremendous growth last year in the outfield," said Cleveland’s skipper.

"I don't think I don't know if he's played right yet. Mostly center and left, but he's very comfortable in center field and left foot."

Cleveland has several other players ahead of Watson on the depth chart that they want to get looks at once the regular season starts. With that, it would be somewhat shocking if Watson made the Opening Day roster even if he keeps this pace up at the plate.

However, with the impression that Watson is leaving on the coaching staff and front office in spring training, he is certainly setting himself up for a 2026 debut, if he can continue this production at the plate once the Minor League season begins.
