Ralphy Velazquez continues to learn valuable lessons as he progresses through the Cleveland Guardians' farm system.

The first few seasons of Ralphy Velazquez’s career were full of growing pains as the teenager acclimated to professional baseball.

All of the adversity he faced earlier on in his Minor League career paid off as Ralphy has asserted himself as one of the top prospects in the Cleveland Guardians’ farm system.

Since being drafted in 2019, Velazquez believes the area in which he’s grown the most is his mindset.

“My mental game for sure,” explained Velazquez. “Definitely just learning how to feed the game day by day, have fun, and enjoy the rough times for sure, because they're just all learning moments.”

Ralphy recalled a time during his first Spring Training when he was disappointed and put pressure on himself after he had only two hard-hit singles that day. Now, Velazquez realizes that any success or failure can be just another piece of the overall puzzle.

Velazquez tried to keep this same positive mindset, even was not performing well at Lake County back in 2024. The first baseman focused on areas he could control, and that included off the field.

“I had three rough months at Lake County, and it was tough. It was tough on me,” admitted Velazquez.

“I know that I should have been performing better, but, the thing that I kept doing really well at was being a good teammate, and just trusting myself, trusting coming to work every day, putting in the work, and knowing that I'm gonna get out of it.”

Looking ahead, Velazquez knows he’s not a finished product, and continues to work on “every part of my game.”

“Every part of my game, hitting, defense, mental game, even when I'm sitting, and I got to be a good player in the dugout.
Every part of my game I have to work on, and it's day by day.”

So far through the first 17 games of the 2026 Velazquez owns a .250/.363/.441 slash ine with three home runs. This comes after the 20-year-old made a statement during big-league Spring Training with a .791 OPS.

As long as Ralphy maintains this positive mindset as he continues to grow and face adversity, he should be in a good mental spot when his eventual MLB debut comes.
