Now could be a great time for the Cleveland Guardians to call up prospect Kody Huff.
There have already been nine players in the Cleveland Guardians organization who have made their MLB debuts in 2026, the second-most in club history before the All-Star Break.
Some of these promotions have been long-awaited and highly anticipated debuts, including those of Travis Bazzana, Daniel Espino, Kahlil Watson, and Franco Aleman.
With that in mind, there are still other players in Cleveland’s organization who could get called up at some point this season and deserve one, too.
One prospect who falls into that category is Kody Huff.
For reference, Cleveland acquired Huff from the Colorado Rockies in the fall of 2023 as part of a trade centered on Cal Quantrill. He was a 7th-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft and entered the Guardians organization as a catcher.
Even though Huff has primarily been a catcher throughout his Minor League career, he has taken significant steps toward becoming more versatile over the last few seasons. Huff is much more than just a backstop now, having appeared in 22 games at first base and 10 at third base.
Versatility alone won’t help Huff reach the Majors, though.
What makes now a great time to give Huff an opportunity is that he’s swinging one of the hottest bats in Cleveland’s farm system.
Huff is having a breakout season at the plate in 2026.
The right-hander had an average OPS below .700 in his previous two seasons at Double-A and Triple-A. Chris Antonetti said earlier this season that Huff made a conscious effort to adjust and improve at the plate over the offseason, and that’s exactly what’s happened.
Huff has a .272/.384/.498 slash line with 14 doubles and 11 home runs this season. Coming out to a 131 wRC+. He’s also demonstrated great plate discipline, logging a walk rate of 14.5 percent and a strikeout rate of 19.7.
Huff, also a right-handed hitter, would give the Guardians’ lineup some much-needed balance, too.

Their defensive versatility got them both to the big-league level, and they have found a way to get some big hits for the team over the last few years, too.
At some point, the Guardians need to make a decision with Huff. He’s Rule 5-eligible this winter and has the exact skill set that an opposing team could look to select and take a chance on.
There are too many reasons not to give Huff an opportunity at some point during the 2026 season.
