The Cleveland Guardians are trading SP Aaron Civale to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for 1B prospect Kyle Manzardo.
The Cleveland Guardians have reportedly made another trade following the Amed Rosario swap last week.
Multiple reports indicate that Cleveland is trading away Aaron Civale to the Rays in exchange for Kyle Manzardo. The first baseman is Tampa Bay's fourth-ranked prospect in their system and 37th prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline.
This trade has yet to be confirmed by either club.
Before the trade deadline drama really picked up, President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti said the team was looking into acquiring another starting pitcher (which they did in Noah Syndergaard) and getting another bat for the lineup.
Civale's 2023 season is one of his best to date posting an ERA of 2.34 and a WHIP of 1.04. He just wrapped up a month of July in which he held a 1.45 ERA over three starts.
Cleveland's decision to trade Civale could not have been an easy one. They need starting pitching because of the number of rookie arms in their rotation and injuries to the pitching staff.
However, Civale's value on the market was too high to pass up. Acquiring a power bat such as Manzardo will help this offense for years to come and the Guardians still have plenty of pitching depth when fully healthy.
