Tanner Bibee struck out five more batters without issuing a walk in his second start with the Cleveland Guardians.
A lot of young pitchers head into Yankee Stadium and get overwhelmed by the stage and crowd. However, Tanner Bibee is not just any other young pitcher!
Bibee impressed once again in his second Big League start. It's pretty hard to follow up a Major League debut that included eight strikeouts and only allowing one run. However, he did his best to recreate that magic and almost did.
The rookie right-hander pitched 5.1 innings allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out five. One run came on a solo home run from Anthony Volpe and the other was a base hit RBI allowed by James Karinchak which was credited to Bibee.
Volpe's home run was a byproduct of the infamous New York short porch in right field. Volpe's home run would've been a homer in six ballparks, but it's a home run nonetheless.
One of the most impressive parts of Bibee's game is his command. He's yet to issue a walk in both of his starts. That's 11.0 innings and 183 total pitches thrown without giving a batter a free bag on balls. (Charlie Blackmon was hit by a pitch by Bibee in his debut.)
That's some ace-level command of the strike zone that Bibee is showing in just his second start in the Big Leagues.
It's exciting to watch the young pitcher make his presence known on the mound. But it's just as cool to hear those who've been around the game for a long time talk about him.
As Tito said, "We're going to enjoy watch to see how good he can get."
