Is Bo Bichette’s Future Still With Toronto Blue Jays? cover image

Could the Blue Jays move on from their shortstop?

The Toronto Blue Jays have made a lot of moves this offseason, most recently signing third baseman Kazuma Okamoto to a four-year, $60 million contract. The question is not only where the Blue Jays play him, but also where other plays may move around – within or outside the organization. The buzz surrounding Toronto linked to other major free agents, coupled with Okamoto’s deal, have led to questions about the future of shortstop Bo Bichette.

Bichette is a career Blue Jay who played a key role in the franchise’s World Series run. He slashed .311/.357/.483 with 18 homers, 94 RBI, and a .840 OPS. They also played Bichette a bit at second base in the World Series, where they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. If the team decides to retain Bichette, they could possibly shuffle things around to move him to second base and find an opening for Okamoto at the hot corner. But some insiders don’t believe Toronto will end up keeping him.

Here is the full story from Blue Jays Roundtable writer Teren Kowatsch on the skepticism surrounding Bichette’s future with the franchise.

While Bichette had a great season in 2025 and that bodes well for him and his payday, it does make it a bit tougher to keep him. Bichette is expected to garner a salary worth more than $150 million. The Blue Jays have certainly made a lot of moves this offseason that imply they would have the funds for that type of thing, but it might simply be an overly crowded infield.
