The Seattle Mariners skipper discussed what he wants to see from Gilbert and Donovan's condition ahead of game three against the Houston Astros
SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners will be looking for its first series win of the season in game three of a four-game set against the Houston Astros at 1:10 p.m. PT on Sunday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
The Mariners guaranteed at least a series split against their American League West archrivals in game two of the series Saturday. The M's won 8-7 after being down by as much as 7-2 and scored six unanswered runs.
The final run came via a walk-off RBI single from shortstop J.P. Crawford, who stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and one out before he delivered the game-winning hit.
Brendan Donovan, who pinch-hit for designated hitter Rob Refsnyder, drew a four-pitch walk to give Seattle multiple runners on base before Crawford's single.
Donovan's pinch-hit walk came after he was absent from the starting lineup for the second-straight game due to an illness he contracted toward the end of Seattle's three-game road series against the Texas Rangers.
Donovan was back in the lineup ahead of game three against the Astros batting lead-off and playing his usual spot at third base.
"He's back at it today," Mariners manager Dan Wilson said in a pregame interview Sunday. "We've talked about just the kind of player he is, the kind of person he is. Great to see him back in that lineup today."
Donovan has slashed .316/.435/.605 this year with a 1.040 OPS and has hit two doubles and three home runs with five RBIs in 12 games played.

The M's' Opening Day starter is looking to build off his last outing against the Texas Rangers on April 6, where he registered his first quality start of the season. Gilbert struck out five batters, didn't issue a free base and allowed two earned runs on six hits in six innings pitched.
So far this season, Gilbert has posted a 5.40 ERA and has fanned 18 hitters across 16.2 innings pitched in three starts.
"(Houston's) a team that put a lot of tough at-bats on (Luis Castillo on Saturday) early and ran his pitch count up, too," Wilson said. "So I think being aggressive, even when you get to two strikes — I think (Gilbert's) done an outstanding job getting ahead and controlling the count and then when he gets to two strikes, being able to put guys away. I think that's the important part. I know that's a part of his aggressive mentality and I think we'll see more of that today."
A win Sunday would mark the third-straight win for Seattle. It was coming off a five-game losing streak going into this series against Houston.
