Raleigh and Dominic Canzone both had multiple home runs to lift the Mariners to their 10th-straight win

The Seattle Mariners brought their wave of momentum from their perfect homestand into Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

The Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 12-5 on Tuesday. The former extended their season-best win streak to 10 games and improved to 83-68 in the process.

"Offensively, came out from the first pitch and just did some unbelievable things," M's manager Dan Wilson said after the game. "Setting history of course tonight ... what a ballgame."

Seattle scored at least one run in the first five innings en route to its dominant victory, and several of those runs came via history-making homers from catcher Cal Raleigh.

With the Mariners up 3-0, Raleigh hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the third inning. That homer was the All-Star's major league-leading 55th of the season, which passed Mickey Mantle for the most in a single season by a switch hitter.

Raleigh's first homer kicked off a scoring spree for the M's. Josh Naylor hit an RBI double and scored on a groundout hit by third baseman Eugenio Suarez and right fielder Victor Robles hit an RBI triple.

Seattle's lead was bolstered to 7-0 by the top of the fourth inning, when Raleigh hit a two-run homer to center field. It was the fifth time this season Raleigh homered from both sides of the plate. His 56th home run brought him even with Ken Griffey Jr. for the most homers in a single season in franchise history.

Raleigh's second homer increased the Mariners' lead to 9-0 through the top of the fourth.

"It's crazy," Raleigh said in a postgame interview. "Not a lot of words to describe it. Very grateful for that. Still pretty crazy."

The Royals got their first run on the board courtesy of a solo home run hit by catcher Carter Jensen in the bottom of the fourth.

Designated hitter Dominic Canzone gave Seattle double-digit runs with a solo home run to center field. That home run was Canzone's second of three on the night. His first was a solo shot in the top of the second.

Jensen hit another home run, this time a two-run shot, in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Mariners' lead to 10-3. Second baseman Jonathan India scored on Jensen's second home run, which was credited to Seattle starting pitcher Logan Gilbert.

Gilbert finished with five strikeouts, one walk, one wild pitch and two earned runs allowed on five hits (one home run) in 5.2 innings pitched. Reliever Carlos Vargas allowed the two-run shot to Jensen. He and Gilbert were both dinged with an earned run on Jensen's homer.

Kansas City tacked on another two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Center fielder Kyle Isbel hit an RBI single and Jensen scored on an RBI sacrifice fly hit by left fielder Mike Yastrzemski.

Canzone closed out the game on an emphatic note with his third homer of the night — a two-run homer to right field in the top of the ninth that resulted in the eventual final of 12-5. Canzone finished the game 5-for-5 with four runs, four RBIs and three homers.

Seattle remained a half-game ahead of the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West with the win.

The Mariners will look to clinch their fourth-consecutive series win in Game 2 against the Royals at 4:40 p.m. PT on Wednesday. Bryce Miller will start for Seattle and Cole Ragans will start for Kansas City.
