A career-night from pitcher Bryan Woo led the Mariners to their third consecutive series win

SEATTLE — A career-night from starting pitcher Bryan Woo and timely hits from several of the Seattle Mariners' biggest contributors provided the catalyst in a 5-3 win against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday at T-Mobile Park.

It was the Mariners' eighth straight win, which matches a season-high for the club. It was also their third consecutive series win.

"The guys keep rolling, they keep fighting," M's manager Dan Wilson said after the game. "This has been a good homestand, clearly. Nice to win the series. We've got to come out tomorrow and continue to play well and get the sweep tomorrow. Loved the energy in the ballpark tonight."

Seattle managed to hold Los Angeles to three runs in large part to a career-best night from starting pitcher Bryan Woo.

Woo, who was named an All-Star for the first time in his career this season, matched his career-high in single-game strikeouts (nine) five separate times this year. He got over the hump in Saturday's contest.

Woo struck out 13 on 100 pitches in six innings. He walked one batter and allowed two earned runs on three hits (one home run).

Woo's record improved to 14-7 this year. Saturday was his 10th win at T-Mobile Park, which made him the first Mariners starter to have 10 or more wins at the team's home field since Felix Hernandez in 2015.

"It means a lot," Woo said in a postgame interview. "It's one of those things you don't shoot for, it just is a result of doing things the right way consistently over time. These type of games just kind of develop themselves after you do it enough. But it was nice to get over the hump of sitting at nine (strikeouts) for so long, being able to get to the 10th and the last inning of getting to 13. I think I got nine like my third career game in the big leagues and it took me, what, three years now to get over that. It was cool."

Seattle's offense supported Woo's career night throughout the game.

Second baseman Jorge Polanco hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the first inning that put the Mariners in front 2-0.

The Angels came back to tie the game. Los Angeles right fielder Jo Adell hit a solo home run to center field and center fielder Bryce Teodosio hit an RBI single in the top of the second.

The 2-2 knot remained until the bottom of the fourth. J.P. Crawford hit his 10th home run of the season — a solo shot to right field — to put Seattle back in front 3-2.

Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor bolstered the team's advantage to 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth with a two-RBI single after an 11-pitch at-bat.

Los Angeles left fielder Taylor Ward gave his team one more run in the top of the ninth with a solo home run to left field, which resulted in the eventual final of 5-3.

After giving up the home run, Seattle reliever Matt Brash induced a double play and struck out Angels first baseman Logan Davidson to earn his fourth save of the season in as many opportunities.

"This is the time where you want to get hot," Wilson said. "This is the time where you want to play well. These guys are doing it. It's been a great stretch here. I think we've been doing the things we need to do to win games. We've been doing the little things, the momentum has been on our side. I think tomorrow, you look for the same game plan."

The Mariners will look to earn their second consecutive sweep in the series finale against Los Angeles at 1:10 p.m. PT on Sunday. George Kirby will start for Seattle and Kyle Hendricks will start for the Angels.
