The Mariners extended their win streak to three games and took their first series of the season

Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson speaks to the media following a 6-1 win against the Houston Astros on Sunday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

SEATTLE — Multi-hit games from outfielders Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez and Luke Raley and a seven-inning quality start from pitcher Logan Gilbert lifted the Seattle Mariners to a 6-1 win against the Houston Astros on Sunday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

The Mariners (7-9) extended their win streak to three games and took their first series win of the season in the process.

"Getting your first series is good," Seattle manager Dan Wilson said after the game Sunday. "It's nice and I think we're starting to put some good games back-to-back and so forth. I think there's been a lot of good, positive signs ... but there's a long way to go and it's a matter of just continuing to be consistent day after day."

The Mariners, as they've done throughout the four-game series, took advantage of sloppy pitching from the Astros to build their lead.

In the bottom of the first inning, with third baseman Brendan Donovan and Rodriguez on base after a hit-by-pitch and a walk, respectively, Arozarena had the first of his three hits on the day. It was an RBI single that brought home Donovan and gave Seattle a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, shortstop J.P. Crawford, designated hitter Dominic Canzone and second baseman Cole Young all drew walks to load the bases with no outs.

After a couple pitches to Donovan, reliever Jayden Murray took the mound in place of Houston starting pitcher Cody Bolton, who left the game due to back tightness.

Murray struck out Donovan and catcher Cal Raleigh swinging. He then walked Rodriguez with the bases loaded, which extended the Mariners' lead to 2-0.

Seattle put up the first of two multi-run innings in the bottom of the third. Arozarena led off the inning with a single and Raley moved Arozarena to third with a double that dropped just fair of the left field line.

Arozarena finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Raley went 3-for-5 (two doubles) with a run and two RBIs.

Three at-bats after Raley's double, Young was walked with the bases loaded to bolster the M's' lead to 3-0. Donovan hit an RBI sacrifice fly to give the Mariners a 4-0 lead through three.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, up 4-1, Seattle put the game away for good.

With two on and one out, Arozarena nearly had another RBI but Rodriguez was thrown out at home. The play advanced first baseman Josh Naylor to third, giving the Mariners runners on the corners with two outs.

Raley brought both players in with a two-RBI double that resulted in the eventual final of 6-1.

"I think everybody's been having pretty good at-bats," Raley said after the game. "Just drawing our walks, getting hit by pitches, any way to get on base. And then we've been doing the job at the plate — getting runs in."

Three of Seattle's six runs came via base hits. Two more came via walks with the bases loaded and one was on a sac fly.

The Astros gave up 11 free bases Sunday: nine walks and two hit-by-pitches.

In contrast to Houston's performance on the mound, Mariners starting pitcher Logan Gilbert had his longest outing in over a year.

The 2024 All-Star struck out seven, walked one and allowed one earned run on four hits (one home run) in seven innings pitched. It was his first time pitching through the seventh inning since Opening Day last year (March 27, 2025).

The only run allowed by Gilbert was a two-out, solo homer to catcher Yainer Diaz in the top of the fifth, which accounted for the Astros' only run of the day.

Gilbert also helped pull off an important play early in the game. He picked off Houston lead-off hitter and second baseman Jose Altuve in the first inning after Naylor pulled off a deke at first. Altuve reached base previously via a lead-off single.

Altuve had successfully stolen second just before the pick-off but was sent back to first after it was ruled the umpire interfered on the throw to second from Raleigh.

"I didn't know (Naylor deked) on that one," Gilbert said in a postgame interview. "It was not me. (The pick-off) was called by the dugout, Naylor dekeing him, Cal reading it. Basically everybody else picked him off, I just threw the ball."

Seattle will try and pull off a rare four-game sweep against its American League West archrivals in the series finale at 1:10 p.m. PT on Monday at T-Mobile Park.

George Kirby will start for the Mariners and Mike Burrows will start for the Astros.
