Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez had quite an eventful 10-minute stretch on Sunday night while playing for the Dominican Republic in the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic against the United States.
First, in the bottom of the fourth inning, Rodriguez took a fastball to the wrist area from Team USA ace Paul Skenes. It was a major worry for M's fans everywhere, who have been worried about injury for all participating players in this tournament. However, Rodriguez stayed in the game.
The Dominicans left the bases loaded in that inning as Skenes escaped with a 2-1 lead.
The Americans were about to add on in the top of the fifth it appeared but Rodriguez robbed Aaron Judge of a home run in deep center field. After the play, Rodriguez flashed his trademark "no fly zone" celebration.
This play is a good chance to remind people that Rodriguez is one of the best defensive outfielders in the game, but he's never won a Gold Glove.

--The Mariners sent Kade Anderson down to minor league spring training after he made three starts in the Cactus League. The No. 21 overall prospect in baseball, Anderson was taken No. 3 in the MLB Draft last July. While he could debut in the big leagues as early as this season, it looks like he'll start the 2026 campaign at Double-A Arkansas. That is still an aggressive early-season assignment.
--Mariners pitcher George Kirby recently said he's going to experiment with using his own PitchCom device this season. While there's certainly a possibility for that to cause some friction with the catching staff, ESPN MLB Insider recently told the 'Refuse to Lose' podcast that he thinks this is a good idea.
--M's spring training superstar Brennen Davis left Saturday's loss against the Los Angeles Angels with a hamstring issue, but he thinks he's fine. The extreme heat in the Phoenix area may have contributed. The Mariners defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.
