The Seattle Mariners second baseman has an incredible mark in high-pressure situations, helping lead the Mariners to a 16-16 record.

The Seattle Mariners are coming off an extremely successful road trip that might have been the necessary push the team needed to get back on track after a rough start to the year.

The Mariners were 5-1 in their recent away trip, including a series sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals and a series win in a three-game set against the Minnesota Twins.

Seattle improved back to .500 (16-16) with the pair of series wins, which were the team's first road series wins of the season.

And second baseman Cole Young had his fingerprints all over the Mariners' most recent road success.

During the six-game swing, Young went 11-for-22 (.500) with a homer, two doubles, five runs scored and eight RBIs.

Young had an RBI in every single game on the road trip, including three in the M's' 5-3 win against the Twins on Wednesday at Target Field in Minneapolis.

The Pittsburgh native tied Wednesday's contest 2-2 with an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning and had a go-ahead two-RBI single in the top of the ninth inning which put the M's in front 4-3.

The 22-year-old infielder already has played nearly half the amount of games this season (32) that he did in his rookie year in 2025 (77) and has shown a significant uptick in production.

In '25, Young slashed .211/.302/.305 with a .607 OPS and hit seven doubles, a triple and four homers with 24 RBIs.

This season, Young has a slash line of .286/.357/.420 with a .777 OPS and has connected for four doubles, a triple and three home runs with 19 RBIs.

A large part of the former top 100 prospect's increase in production has been his steady bat in clutch situations, which has led him to have an incredible stat.

Young has a 126 wRC+ (weighted runs created-plus) this season, according to FanGraphs. The league average is 100, which means Young is hitting 26% better than the average per the statistic.

Per FanGraphs, Young has an 81 wRC+ in low-leverage situations, an 85 wRC+ in medium leverage and a 367 wRC+ in high-leverage spots. That would mean, per the statistic, that Young is 367% better than league average in clutch or high-pressure situations.

Per FanGraphs, Young has received 19 plate appearances in high-leverage spots and has nine hits, 12 RBIs and no strikeouts.

Young received both vocal and symbolic confidence from the front office this offseason when the team elected for him to be the Opening Day second baseman following a slump last August where he was benched.

It's still early into the year but Young has started to emerge as the player that president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto and general manager Justin Hollander thought he was and were confident in giving the reins to at second base.

The Mariners are off on Thursday and will open up a new series with the Kansas City Royals on Friday night at 6:45 p.m. PT. The game will air on Apple TV.
