The Seattle Mariners' second baseman helped pave the way for a critical victory on Saturday night.
The Seattle Mariners earned a much-needed 4-3 victory on Saturday night at T-Mobile Park, beating the San Francisco Giants in the second game of a three-game series.
For the Mariners, they are now 49-50 and remain 1.5 games back of the Texas Rangers in the American League West. They are also one game back of the Boston Red Sox in the chase for the third and final wild card spot.
After getting shut out by the Giants on Friday night, the Mariners were on their way to getting shut out again until Cole Young hit a game-tying three-run home run off Logan Webb in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Mariners won it in the 10th on a walk-off sac fly.
Young, 22, now has 12 home runs and 46 RBIs on the season. He's hitting .254 overall, which is a major improvement from the .211 he hit in 77 games as a rookie in 2025. In many ways, he's been one of the M's most productive players, and when it comes to two-out magic, he's been one of the best in the major leagues.
As noted by Mariners PR's Kristilyn Hetherington, Young is tied for third in baseball in terms of two-out, runners in scoring position RBIs this season. He has 23 of them, which is tied with Alec Burleson of the St. Louis Cardinals. They trail only Mauricio Dubon of the Atlanta Braves (26) and Dillon Dingler of the Detroit Tigers (27).
In addition to his clutch stats, Young is also posting a .400 slugging percentage and a .713 OPS. He's been excellent defensively at second base and there was some chatter that he should have represented the American League at the All-Star Game, though he was not selected.

The Mariners and Giants will finish out their series on Sunday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. PT. Former Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray will take the mound for San Francisco while the Mariners send Logan Gilbert to the mound. Ray is 8-6 with a 3.38 ERA while Gilbert is 7-6 with a 3.32.
Of course, Ray is left-handed, which complicates things for an M's team that really struggles against lefties.
For scoreboard watching purposes, the Red Sox are hosting the Tampa Bay Rays and are looking for a four-game sweep. They've won 12 consecutive games.
The Rangers are on the road at the Atlanta Braves, looking for a series win against one of the best teams in baseball.
