On Sunday night, the Seattle Seahawks will play the New England Patriots looking to win the second Super Bowl in franchise history.
The Seahawks Super Bowl appearance, on the heels of a 2025 Seattle Mariners trip to the American League Championship Series, has created an usual sense of optimism and happiness in Seattle sports fans.
Being a Seattle sports fan has historically been hard, but this calendar year has been fun. And it could get even better with a highly-anticipated M's season set to begin at spring training next week.
From the most recent 'Refuse to Lose' podcast:
I gotta tell you, I have always been a fan - and d I think if you've listened for a while, I think you've realized this. I have always been a fan to plan for the worst, hope for the best. I've always been a fan that's tried to undersell things in my head, right? I've always been fearful of getting too hyped up. I've been fearful of being too excited, 'cause the minute you get too excited is the minute something comes back and bites you in the backside.
So, I- I still try to kind of downplay my optimism on things for fear of not being let down. But I've got to tell you that I do not remember a better stretch here, or a more optimistic stretch as a Seattle sports fan in my life. Between what we saw the Mariners do in 2025, what we've seen the Seahawks do in 2025 getting to the Super Bowl and maybe winning it just a few days from now (recorded Thursday), to what we hope and think the Mariners can accomplish in 2026. I don't ever remember this level of optimism.
Even at my most naive, even at my youngest, I don't ever remember thinking that things could be this good. I remember feeling good about the Mariners and not the Seahawks. I remember feeling good about the Seahawks and not the Mariners. But to feel good about both of them at the same time and to feel, like, championship level good about both of them at the same time? This is a feeling like I never remember, like I don't think I've ever had before.
The Super Bowl kicks off at 3:30 pm. PT and will air on NBC and Peacock. The Mariners will begin their 2026 season on March 26 at home against the Cleveland Guardians.
