Snider has reportedly signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs

The Seattle Mariners recently made a move to shore up the back-end of the bullpen by acquiring left-handed reliever Jose Ferrer in a trade with the Washington Nationals.

The Mariners are still looking for another arm to add to the bullpen. While they're focused on that, a reliever that's spent the last two seasons in the Pacific Northwest has found a new home.

According to a story from Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, right-handed reliever Collin Snider has signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs.

Snider has had an up-and-down major league career but enjoyed his best season with Seattle.

The Mariners originally acquired Snider, a 12th-round 2017 MLB Draft pick by the Kansas City Royals, off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Dec. 18, 2023.

Snider was one of Seattle's best bullpen arms in 2024. In 42 appearances, which matched a single-seasons career-high, Snider posted a 1.94 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 41.2 innings pitched and had nine holds.

Snider entered 2025 expected to be one of the Mariners' premiere set-up men in middle leverage spots. Instead, he suffered several setbacks, including injuries.

Snider had a 5.47 ERA and fanned 24 batters in 26.1 innings pitched across 24 appearances and had four holds.

Snider was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right flexor strain June 4 and sent on a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers a month later on July 5.

Seattle designated Snider for assignment July 30 and set him to the Rainiers outright Aug. 3, where he spent the rest of the regular season. The former Vanderbilt hurler posted an 8.06 ERA and struck out 21 batters in 25.2 innings pitched across 25 outings with Tacoma.

Snider elected free agency at the end of the year.

Despite Snider's departure, the Mariners' bullpen is coming together nicely.

Seattle has a solid bevy of high-leverage arms after the Ferrer trade. The Mariners have Matt Brash, Eduard Bazardo, Gabe Speier, Ferrer and two-time All-Star closer Andres Munoz, who all posted ERAs. With the exception of Ferrer, all of those hurlers posted ERAs below 2.75 this past season.

Seattle also has several arms that could pitch their way into the Opening Day bullpen in spring training. One of those arms is Alex Hoppe, who the Mariners acquired in a trade with the Boston Red Sox earlier this offseason. Other relievers who could factor into the open bullpen spots are returners Jackson Kowar, Casey Legumina and Troy Taylor, among others.
