Mike Cameron was a guest on the recent 'Refuse to Lose Territory' podcast, and shared his thoughts on the M's top prospect.
On Sunday, Seattle Mariners top prospect Colt Emerson made his major league debut, going 0-for-2 with a walk.
On Monday, Emerson got his first major league hit, and his first home run, as part of the M's 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox at T-Mobile Park.
Before that game, we had a chance to catch up with former Mariners outfielder Mike Cameron on the 'Refuse to Lose Territory' podcast, and Cameron talked about Emerson, who he knows through his current work with the organization.
Cameron is a frequent on-field coach at spring training and also works on special assignments for the Mariners.
"And I think that just is aura in itself. He's a hard worker, very vigilant, as all young players are. They take everything to heart, any struggle, thinking that they're supposed to dominate all the time, you know, mentality is dominate. But man, he's just one of those all-around American kids: He's got great parents, and the guy looks good. I mean he's got great hair and so and he can play baseball at a high level at such a young age.

Lindsey Wasson-Imagn ImagesAnd so, to be able to be composed to understanding all that and knowing that his debut was just anticipated. We don't ever know when the debuts are.... But obviously he's been a very, really, really good player against a lot of great competition.
And so to be able to see any of these guys get a chance to make their debuts is pretty special, especially when you've seen them grinding in the minor leagues on the backfields and everything else. No matter how good you are, whatever it is, the anxiety that you get playing that first game, man, and you're trying to hone all of that and play the game in itself.
But man, it's just great to be able to get a look at him right now and see where he's at and also getting a run..."
Cameron had a 17-year career including four great seasons with the Mariners from 2000-03. Originally acquired in the deal that sent Ken Griffey Jr. to the Cincinnati Reds before the 2000 season, he helped lead the Mariners to the 2000 and 2001 American League Championship Series. He was an All-Star in that 2001 season as the Mariners won 116 games.
