It will be win-or-go-home for the Mariners on prime time Friday

The Seattle Mariners have a simple scenario in front of them: win or go home.

The Mariners lost to the Detroit Tigers 9-3 in Game 4 of the American League Divisional Series on Wednesday at Comerica Park in Detroit. The Tigers scored nine unanswered runs starting in the bottom of the fifth for the win. The loss tied the best-of-five ALDS at two games apiece.

Game 5 will take place Friday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, but the two teams had to wait to see what time first pitch would take place.

The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees played each other in Game 5 of their respective ALDS on Wednesday. If the Blue Jays won, they would advance to the American League Championship Series and Game 5 between Seattle and Detroit would take place at 5:08 p.m. PT/8:08 p.m. ET. If the Yankees won, Game 5 would take place at 1:40 p.m. PT/4:40 p.m. ET.

Toronto beat New York 5-2, and the Mariners and Tigers will play at 5:08 p.m. PT on Friday at T-Mobile Park.

The game will be broadcast on FOX.

Friday will be the third time Seattle will play an ALDS Game 5 in its franchise history. It won the last two prior: a 3-1 result against the then-Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) on Oct. 15, 2001, and a 6-5 triumph against the New York Yankees on Oct. 8, 1995.

The ALDS Game 5 win was the game that featured "The Double" — Edgar Martinez's game-winning two-RBI double that won Seattle the game in the 11th inning.

Both years, the Mariners' season ended in the ALCS. This year, Seattle hopes it can continue the trend in elimination games, but make it further than it did in those previous years.

The Mariners remain the only team in MLB not to make a World Series.
