SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners were unable to get much going offensively in a 6-2 loss against the Boston Red Sox on Friday at T-Mobile Park.

The Mariners mustered just two hits against the Red Sox in the loss, including only one against Boston starting pitcher Ranger Suarez.

There was only one Seattle batter who reached base multiple times in the loss: star catcher Cal Raleigh. And he reached base despite not having one of the team's two hits on the night.

Raleigh drew three walks in the loss. His final walk came in the bottom of the ninth. Julio Rodriguez hit a two-run home run after Raleigh's walk, which resulted in the only runs of the game for the M's.

Friday was Raleigh's second multi-walk game of the season and his first three-walk game of the year.

Since Raleigh was activated off the injured list after a month-long layoff due to a right oblique strain, he's gone 2-for-11 with a run and two RBIs. One of his two hits was a two-RBI single in a 3-1 win against the Baltimore Orioles on June 16.

Raleigh hasn't been able to regain his 2025 MVP form right away since his return from injury, but he's been noticeably more patient at the plate, which has not gone unnoticed by his skipper.

"Obviously there's going to a little bit of a period of adjustment for (Raleigh)," Mariners manager Dan Wilson said in a pregame interview Saturday. "But I think the three walks last night — I think he showed some pretty good patience. I was encouraged by those. We talk about not trying to do too much and go out of the zone and chase. Cal was pretty disciplined in being able to work those walks and get us on base. Obviously, it's continuing to come and I think the more at-bats he gets, the more pitches he sees, the closer he's getting. From that standpoint, I think it was really a positive night for him."

This season, Raleigh is slashing .163/.259/.308 with a .567 OPS in 45 games and has hit four doubles and seven home runs with 20 RBIs.

Seattle entered Saturday with a 39-38 record and a half-game lead over the Athletics for first place in the American League West.

The Mariners are still attempting to find separation in the American League, and Raleigh finding his form will go a long way in helping with that.

Seattle will play the second of a three-game series against Boston at 7:10 p.m. PT on Saturday at T-Mobile Park.
