The Mariners got the win on Monday night against the Angels, with the 22-year-old playing a huge part in it.
After Sunday afternoon's devastating loss in Cleveland, the Seattle Mariners rebounded on Monday night by beating the Los Angeles Angels 6-2 at T-Mobile Park.
The Mariners trailed 2-0 after two-plus innings before Cole Young homered in the third to make it 2-1.
After the M's had taken a 4-2 lead in the sixth, Young homered for the second time, blasting a two-run shot off the facade deep in right field. The 22-year-old now has nine home runs and 40 RBIs on the season to go along with a .260 average and a .321 on-base percentage.
Furthermore, the first multi-home run game of his career helped put him in some excellent team history, as noted by Mariners PR:
Cole Young is the 10th player in @Mariners history age-22 or younger with a multi-homer game, and the first since Julio Rodríguez (3x, 9/11/22 vs. ATL, 7/25/23 at MIN and 9/5/23 at CIN).
A first-round pick of the Mariners in 2022 out of the Pennsylvania high school ranks, Young made his debut in May of 2025. There were significant growing pains in that season, as he hit just .211 and was left off the playoff roster, but he's established himself as an everyday player this season. He's hitting .346 over his last seven games, .273 over his last 15 and .299 over his last 30, providing stability near the bottom of the order. He even hit at the top while JP Crawford was out with injury.
He's also played excellent defense and could have himself in the mix for a Gold Glove award at second base.
The Mariners (43-43) will host the Angels again on Tuesday night with first pitch coming at 6:40 p.m. PT. Seattle will send Bryan Woo to the mound against right-hander Jose Soriano.

--At 43-43, the Mariners are in second place in the American League West, 0.5 games behind the Texas Rangers, who have won five straight. Seattle is 1.5 games ahead of the Houston Astros for the third and final wild card spot. They also have the season tiebreaker on the Astros, effectively giving them a 2.5-game lead.
--The Mariners will see the Toronto Blue Jays over the holiday weekend. The Blue Jays just snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 win on Monday against the Mets.
